UAE gives 50%

In my last post, I touched on the subject of not all Arab countries progressing towards gender equality at the same rate, some were much slower and some were developing at a rapid pace such as the UAE. UAE has decided to reserve 50% of the seats in the FNC for women starting next year.
The decision made by the president was to encourage Emirati women to fulfill their highest potential in politics, making UAE one of the fastest nations to be enforcing changes in order to reach equality before the sexes. And although it was a very bold move, this news is not spoken about enough – it has not become viral. It is somewhat odd how news in which women seem to be the victim or the overpowered spread faster than news about female empowerment, that would have inspired many.

Having a major role for women in politics does not only signify the advancement of their political status, but of their social status and image as well. It shows the importance of women in the government, as well as allows women to have a voice about issues they feel like need to change or be improved on. This also depicts women as being stronger than what they are generally portrayed as, breaking stereotypes.
It is a pity that the news post was very short, news like this should've contained more detail and somewhat more enthusiasm.
